A FORMER Dapto insurance broker will stand trial on 10 charges of dishonest conduct following an investigation by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.

Scot Weston, 40, is alleged to have fraudulently obtained licences for five NSW go-kart tracks by forwarding documents to the NSW Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation which claimed to set out details of insurance policies.

This led to the payment of premiums and the issue of licences for the tracks by the sport and recreation minister.

Weston, who appeared in Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney last week, is also alleged to have forwarded details to clients of a policy underwritten by Lloyds of London, which the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions claimed did not exist.

The charges follow an ASIC investigation into the activities of Interre Insurance Brokers, Hirtes Insurance Brokers and Weston's conduct as a broker.

Weston was committed by Magistrate John McIntosh to stand trial in the District Court on June 29.AN article in yesterday's Mercury described Dapto man Scot Weston as a former insurance broker. This information was supplied by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission. ASIC accepts that it had not confirmed whether or not he was still a practising broker when it released the information. Mr Weston continues to act as an insurance broker.
